MCAS BEAUFORT -- Laughter filled Fightertown’s theater as the Leathernecks II Comedy and Entertainment Tour visited, Jan. 11.
The Single Marine and Sailor Program coordinated the event, which featured the Maggie Rose Band and comedians Alex Scott, Geoff Keith and Tim Gaither.
“I enjoy entertaining our service members because it’s important to attract their attention and allow them to forget about any problems they may have,” said Alex Scott, Leathernecks II Comedy and Entertainment Tour comedian. “As a comedian it gives me a feeling of fulfillment to know that what I created is making people laugh and at the same time, we are giving back to those who defend our country.”
Free popcorn and drinks were provided by Marine Corps Community Services whose mission is to promote the physical, financial, mental and emotional well being of all active duty and retired Marines, sailors and their families.
“Being prior military, I understand the sacrifices service members have to make in order to answer the call to duty,” said Scott, who served in the United States Air Force and is a native of Culpeper, Va. “Thanks to [service members], we are able to have the freedoms present today.”
The SMP offers many events throughout the year to all single Marines and Sailors aboard the Air Station and Parris Island.
“The program we have is great because it gives the Marines and Sailors a way to connect to their community and make this their home away from home,” said Benjie Pangelinan, SMP assistant manager and a native of Yigo, Guam. “This is why we have trips and volunteer opportunities for our service members.”
