Students drew Earth Day related artwork for a competition judged by the recycling department aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. Teresa Karlyk, an art teacher, helped the students create designs that fit the Earth Day theme. During the ceremony, Aguilar was presented with the Navy & Marine Association Leadership Award, a peer-selected recognition. The association sponsors more than 400 awards annually for commanders to recognize officers and enlisted personnel who have been selected by their peers as outstanding leaders in their respective communities. Aguilar is a maintenance controller with VMFA-312. Thomas is the commanding officer of VMFA-312 and Tagliere is the sergeant major of the same unit. - Gunnery Sgt. The articles are part of a Santa Elena historical exhibition, a 16th century Spanish settlement once located in present-day Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. The Santa Elena Foundation plans to display the exhibition in the Parris Island Museum in the near future. Military police from Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island are the first responders for security threats aboard either installation or military housing facility. Scott will be in the Tri-command area throughout the week where he plans to visit Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island as well as Naval Hospital Beaufort.
