MCAS Beaufort --

Children celebrated the culminating event for the Month of the Military Child at the Child Development Centers aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, April 26.

April is designated as the Month of the Military Child. The month recognizes the contribution military children make as their parent or parents serve our nation. During April, special days and events are put in place to honor military families and their children.

The culminating event for MCRD Parris Island was a cookout and CDC Parade and the Air Station CDC’s culminating event was the Fun Day Carnival. The events are used to finish the Month of the Military Child with a bang.

“We have bouncy houses, games, tricycles and snow cones for the children to enjoy,” said Helen Rogers, the director of the Child Development Center aboard the Air Station. “It’s a fun event for the kids; imagine how you would feel as a kid knowing there was a festival just to celebrate everything you do. That is what this event is for, the children.”

This is the biggest event these children have looked forward to, said Rogers. Months before Month of the Military Child even begins, children ask if it’s almost time for the Fun Day Carnival.

“The event serves as an opportunity for parents to spend time with their children in a fun environment,” said Rogers. “It also gives parents insight into who their children’s caretakers are, and what we do to ensure that their child receives the best care.”

Events like the cookout and parade at the CDC aboard Parris Island, and the Fun Day Carnival at the CDC aboard the Air Station give children and their parents an opportunity to let loose and have fun while spending quality time with one another.
