Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- Marines and sailors from Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island participated in the Fourth Annual Tee It Up For The Troops, a free golf tournament held at the Sea Pines Country Club in Hilton Head, Oct. 3.
The tournament pairs service members with country club members for a day of golf followed by an award ceremony and cookout. The event forwards 95 percent of the proceeds raised directly to disabled veterans and their families.
“This event has been a blast,” said Cpl. Mark Saeger, the ordnance production control noncommissioned officer in charge for Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31. “This tournament is great for service members to participate in because we get to come out here and enjoy the course while representing [wounded warriors].”
The Sea Pines Country Club raises money during the tournament through club membership fees and donations. The money then gets sent directly to hundreds of wounded warriors and their families to thank them for their sacrifices.
“I love participating in this event,” said Jonathan Nielson, a member of the club. “It’s an honor to be able to come out here and spend the day with these great men and women while raising money for our nations wounded. That alone sets this tournament apart from others and makes this day truly special.”
The golf tournament has been very successful in raising money each year to go to wounded warriors and their families. By the end of the day, the golfers played the 18-hole course, met new people and generated over $10,000 toward wounded veterans and their families.
