Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort -- Ebola currently has a low risk for contamination in the Tri-Command area, according to the Mission Assurance Branch of Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.
“Knowledge is power,” said the Mission Assurance Branch in a base wide e-mail. “The best way for us to protect ourselves from exposure is to educate ourselves and those we live and work with.”
People at risk for contracting Ebola include people in areas affected by outbreak, especially health care workers, according to the Center for Disease Control.
The only way to contract Ebola is direct contact with a sick person or animal and their fluids.
Ebola is not transmitted through air, water or food.
The CDC recommends limited travel to affected areas and basic hygiene to avoid contracting Ebola and disease in general. Wash your hands, avoid contact with sick people or their bodily fluids, and avoid contact with raw meat or fluids from nonhuman primates.
“Travel to Africa should be avoided until epidemic conditions are relieved,” said the Mission Assurance Branch in a base wide e-mail.
The CDC has issued travel warnings for several African countries including Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and the the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
