Tri-Command Military Housing will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception to celebrate the opening of the new Laurel Bay Community Center Wednesday, from 2-5 p.m.

The event is open to all current Laurel Bay residents and their families. Anyone interested in moving into base housing is also encouraged to attend, according to Katie Smith, director of resident communications, Tri-Command Military Housing.

“This is a casual, laid back event that will be a lot of fun,” Smith said. “Also, if anyone is interested in moving onto base housing, this event would be a great way to come out, look around and meet some people.”

After the ribbon cutting, Col. Harmon A. Stockwell, commanding officer, Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and Sgt. Maj. Alexander McBride, Air Station sergeant major, will speak to the crowd. Following the ceremony, residents will be invited to tour their new community center and listen to live music, according to Smith.

“(People) will be able to help themselves to great food and drinks, and meet their neighbors,” Smith said. “Cocktails will be served to those with proper ID.”

The main function of the community center will be to provide a place for families to come together, meet new people and enjoy themselves, according to Smith. The community center will have a kiddie pool, large pool, kitchen, fitness room and more. The Laurel Bay Community manager’s office will also be located there.

The Laurel Bay Community Center is located at 1371 Cardinal Lane Military members may attend in the uniform of the day; otherwise the dress code is casual. For more information call 846-5311.
