Air Station Fitness Center helps keep everyone in shape

23 Apr 2010 | Lance Cpl. Courtney C. White Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort

The Air Station’s Fitness Center is open yearlong to help service members, government employees and their dependents stay physically fit.

Physical fitness is vital to all service members. All services have physical fitness standards, physical fitness testing and physical training.

“The fitness center is great for those looking to relieve stress, have a safe hobby, build confidence and maintain physical requirements (for their respective services),” said Jonathan Hutchison, a personal trainer at the Air Station fitness center.

Different rooms for each style of fitness are available, such as a cardio room, circuit training and free weights. A sauna and an annex, which host several different physical classes, such as step classes, dance and bicycling.

“They have plenty of equipment, a great amount of room and excellent customer service,” said Sgt. Erin Broadstreet, an intelligence specialist with Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 533. “Also, they offer equipment that helps you work out your whole body.”

Not only is the fitness center great for service members to meet physical fitness standards, but also civilian employees and dependents to stay healthy and active.

“The fitness center is a great resource for dependents to meet new friends, have employment opportunities and stay in shape,” Hutchison said.

Plenty of programs are geared toward helping spouses fit in. Some programs offered for families are the Military Ball Challenge, Spring Into Fitness and dance classes.

Spring Into Fitness is an upcoming challenge government employees and their dependents can participate in to help participants work together to lose weight and stay in shape.

Not only does the fitness center have a wide variety of fitness equipment, but it also has hours for participants to train around their schedule. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 4 a.m. until 10:30 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

“They have great hours that are convenient for everyone, even shift workers,” said Gunnery Sgt. Holecheck, the Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron gunnery sergeant.

The Air Station fitness center is continuously making improvements and creating new programs to assist everyone in staying healthy.
