Warrior's Challenge: An elite test for an elite service

Marine Corps Community Services Semper Fit program is slated to hold the Warrior Challenge from Oct. 15-18 at the Air Station fitness center.

This year, the Warrior Challenge is being held in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Warrior Challenge is similar to a modified combat fitness test and now has aspects of the High Intensity Tactical Training program, said Harriet Fisher, MCCS Semper Fit coordinator.

“We have held this event numerous times in the past,” said Fisher. “This time is different; half of the course has been revamped to incorporate the HITT program.”

The Warrior Challenge consists of a 240-pound-tire flip, sprints, low crawls, hurdles, battle ropes, a 75-pound power sled pull over 40 yards, sledgehammer tire slams, box drills, farmer’s carry and the infamous ammo can overhead press.

Battle ropes is one of the new events related to the HITT program, said Fisher.

“The idea behind the course was to build something both fun and challenging for Marines,” said Fisher. “It is a full body exercise but the lower and upper body [muscles] gets the most work. It’s a very, very challenging course.”
