Residents aboard the Laurel Bay Housing Community and Naval Hospital Beaufort may notice increased construction in their communities starting in June.

As part of their Inventory Improvement Plan, Atlantic Marine Corps Community, the privatized housing company responsible for maintenance and management of Tri-Command military housing, will begin renovations to make energy upgrades to more than 1,035 Laurel Bay legacy homes and 53 duplex style homes aboard Naval Hospital Beaufort.

Lend Lease, the general contractor responsible for all work occurring during the improvements and renovations, will head the project that will provide AMCC residents with improved air conditioning systems, new roofing and flooring in certain homes and other upgrades that will lead to improved quality of life for residents.

AMCC has already completed upgrading eight prototype homes aboard Laurel Bay that were reviewed by commanders from the Tri-Command, said Jeff Williams, the senior development manager for AMCC. Commanders all approved of the upgrades and looked forward to what the upgrades will do for residents.

Renovations will take place once residents move out of select homes and prior to new residents moving in. The renovations are expected to be completed in 2016.

According to Williams, military housing aboard Laurel Bay was first constructed as early as the 1960s.

Between 2003 and 2008, Lend Lease renovated more than 1,270 homes, ranging from major renovations to improved amenities aboard Laurel Bay.

"Assessment of the homes throughout all of our communities is an ongoing process," said Dixie Lanier-Johnson, AMCC’s strategic marketing manager. "During the most recent assessment Laurel Bay was identified to have needs for energy efficient improvements, some roof replacement on identified homes, as well as other improvements to the interior which include new flooring."

"There are a lot of things we can do today that weren’t available when these homes were first built," said Williams. "Hopefully the upgrades will add to quality of life."

Residents are asked to be aware of increased vehicles and traffic aboard both Laurel Bay and the Naval Hospital due to the renovations taking place. Being aware of surroundings and children’s surroundings is also requested during the renovation period.

"Work will take place during normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Friday and occasional Saturdays," said Lanier-Johnson. "If this schedule varies, residents will be notified via email and Facebook notification.

"The outcome is expected to be more energy efficient homes that provide a more comfortable living space for our residents," said Lanier-Johnson.

For more information on the renovations taking place or for any safety concerns with the increased activity, residents can contact AMCC through their website at www.atlanticmcc.com or Facebook at www.Facebook. com/tricommand.
