On April 21 and 22, the skies above the Air Station will once again be filled with dynamic aerobatics during the 2007 MCAS Beaufort Air Show.

The Air Station has partnered with the Old Village Association in the Village of Port Royal to bring back the Lowcountry Blues Festival, which this year includes the Air Show and the 4th annual Soft Shell Crab Festival.

The two-day Air Show, which is free and open to the public, will feature aerial acts and demonstration teams from various branches of military service and civilian establishments.

“Part of the reason we do the Air Show is to build community relations,” said Mark Hamilton, the Air Show coordinator. “We want people to come out and learn about what the U.S. military is doing and our capabilities.”

The Blue Angels, the Navy's premier flight demonstration team, are scheduled to perform, along with several other high-caliber aerial demonstration acts. Included will be the Red Baron Pizza Squadron, the F-104 Starfighters, the GEICO Skytypers, the U.S. Air Force Reserve Jet Car Team featuring Smoke-N-Thunder and Tinstix of Dynamite featuring Jim LeRoy, Jurgis Kairys and Rich's Incredible Pyro.

“People coming to the show can expect a world-class event,” Hamilton said. “The acts participating in the Air Show are recognized as some of the premier acts in the aviation community."

The event will also feature static displays of various military and civilian aircraft to include the Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin, the F-15E Strike Eagle, the B-52 Stratofortress and the F/A-18 Hornet.

Along with the aerial dynamics, Air Show spectators will be able to enjoy food and activities from local vendors.

Meanwhile, the other half of the Lowcountry Blues Festival, the Soft Shell Crab Festival will offer entertainment after the first day of the Air Show winds down.

The 4th annual Soft Shell Crab Festival is being produced by the Old Village Association in the Village of Port Royal and will be held April 21. The event is also free and open to the public and goes from 12 to 5 p.m. with a concert beginning at 6 p.m.

“People can expect arts and crafts vendors, food vendors of all kinds, drinks, live music during the daytime and a children’s play area,” said Joe Lee, the chairman of the Old Village Association.

Whether it’s “the Sound of Freedom” you enjoy or the “Taste of the Sea” you crave, get ready for an eventful Lowcountry weekend.
