MCAS BEAUFORT -- The Single Marine and Sailor Program offers single service members opportunities to experience new things outside of their barracks rooms and helps improve moral and camaraderie with one another through trips and activities.
The SMP is taking service members on a weekend trip to go to Six Flags, the Atlanta Aquarium, and an Atlanta Braves game in Georgia, May 31 to June 3. This is one of the SMP’s most popular events and has been offered several times throughout the past few years.
The $200 trip includes transportation, the hotel room and tickets to all three events, said Benjie Pangelinan, the assistant coordinator for the SMP. The SMP does not want transportation or the hassle of getting a hotel room to effect whether or not a Marine or sailor will go on the trip.
"This event is the best example of what this program does for our service members stationed in the Tri-Command," said Pangelinan. "We have everything from Troop Appreciation Night and cookouts to larger events like the Six Flags and Braves trip.
The SMP is made to get service members out of their everyday routines, so they can experience their surroundings, said Pangelinan.
"Our mission is to improve the lives of single Marines and sailors through recreation, education and volunteering opportunities," said Pangelinan. "We want to get everyone out of the barracks to come get involved."
