MCAS BEAUFORT S.C. -- Marine Corps Community Services held a Back to School Kid’s Day at the Movies aboard the Air Station, Aug. 24.
The event consisted of arts and crafts, pizza, games and the viewing of Turbo and Despicable Me 2. A concession kid’s pack was also provided consisting of popcorn and a drink.
Children ages 6 through 12 were eligible to attend the event with a $10 admission fee. MCCS presented back to school prizes such as backpacks, pencils and more as part of the event.
“It’s important to have events like these because it gives the children a chance to meet new friends at their schools if they have not done so already,” said Alicyn Barrett, Air Station and Parris Island theater manager.
Between each movie, various games and crafting stations were set up for children to paint, draw, color, play chess, rings and bingo.
“My favorite part was watching the movies with my friends because there were a lot of funny parts,” said Cameron Broker, son of 1st Lt. Eric Broker from Marine Air Control Squadron 2.
MCCS offers many programs throughout the year for children and teens such as their youth sports program, Lifestyles Insight Networking Knowledge Skills program for kids and Kids on the Home Front.
“The activities on base are great for children because it saves money and gives the children an environment where they can relate to others and understand the lifestyle of having a parent in the military,” said Master Sgt. Ronald Hollins, Installation Personnel Administration Center service section non-commissioned officer in charge.
The installation theaters offer movie viewing for adults at $3 per ticket, children 12 through six years old for $1 and free admission for children under six. 3-D moves are also available for $5 per ticket for adults, $3 for children 12 through six years old and free admission for children under six.
