Kid’s Fest: 20 years of community support

20 Mar 2015 | Cpl. Sarah Cherry Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort

The free 20th Annual Kid’s Fest is scheduled to take place at the Cross Creek Shopping Center, March 28.

The event is designed to raise awareness on keeping children safe, child abuse prevention and neglected children, and is kicking off the month of April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Month and Month of the Military Child.

"The community to the Marine Corps is not just the base," said Ginny Wescott, Family Advocacy Program Prevention and Education Specialist aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. "We see it as one big family and we want everyone to feel supported and have the necessary resources."

Each year, the Tri-Command and local agencies work together to raise community awareness about child abuse.

"It’s very important to the Marine Corps to reach out to the community and show support for this issue," said Wescott.

Children can play games, ride rides and eat while they and their parents are informed about services in the community for military and civilian families.
