Military families enjoy fun-filled day with Sesame Street

The Sesame Street/USO Experience for MilitaryFamilies came to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort on Nov. 6. Air Stationchildren were visited by Elmo, Grover, Cookie Monster, Rosita and more friendsfrom Sesame Street.

The Sesame Street experience is the USO’s longestrunning, free traveling tour. The show debuted in July 2008 and has been viewedby more than 248,000 troops and military families and performed 433 shows.

During the show, Elmo and his Sesame Street palshelp their new friend Katie open up about her fears and excitement as she dealswith moving to a new place and making new friends. The show consists of a funfilled performance as well as special giveaways and outreach materials forthose who attended.

“This is the second time we have been to the SesameStreet experience,” said Elizabeth Bradley, spouse of an Air Station Marine.“My son is four and he had a lot of fun and learned from the show as well.”

The message that the Sesame Street experience sendsis an important one.

“Our goal is to reach as many military children andtheir families as we can with Elmo and Katie’s messages of hope andresilience,” said H. Melvin Ming, Sesame Workshop president and CEO. “TheSesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families is near and dear to theheart of Sesame Workshop. We are proud to see the growing number of troops andtheir families reached by this effort.”

This year, the Sesame Street/USO Experience forMilitary Families is scheduled to stop at 70 locations across the country.
