Colonel Trevor J. Felter
Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort
Colonel Trevor Felter enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in September 1994 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Following recruit training, he was designated a Ground Support Equipment Electrician and reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa in October 1995.
In 1997, Colonel Felter was selected to attend the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned in May 2002. Upon graduation from The Basic School in January 2003, he reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida for flight training. He completed primary flight training with VT-6 and advanced jet training with VT-7 before earning designation as a Naval Aviator in August 2005. He was selected for the AV-8B Harrier and reported to VMAT-203 for initial qualification.
Colonel Felter’s operational assignments include service with VMA-223, where he deployed from July 2008 to January 2009 with Marine Aircraft Group 12 and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. He later served as a Weapons and Tactics Officer and deployed with the AV-8B detachment of the 24th MEU aboard USS Nassau in support of Operation Enduring Freedom - Horn of Africa. Following this deployment, he served as Air Officer for 1st Battalion, 8th Marines and deployed to the vicinity of the Kajaki Dam in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Colonel Felter served as an instructor pilot with VMAT-203, where he held billets as both Logistics Officer and Operations Officer. He later assumed duties as the Executive Officer of VMA-231 and deployed with the squadron to Bahrain in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, conducting combat operations in Iraq and Syria. He subsequently served as AV-8B Detachment Officer-in-Charge with the 22nd MEU, leading the squadron’s return to naval operations after a three-year gap.
In December 2018, Colonel Felter assumed duties as Executive Officer of VMM-264 and deployed aboard USS Kearsarge in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan. He later served as Aircraft Readiness Officer and then as Executive Officer of VMA-542, assuming command of the squadron in June 2020. While in command, he deployed again with the 22nd MEU, marking the final deployment of the AV-8B Harrier for the unit. In December 2022, he led the sundown of VMA-542 and facilitated its transition to the F-35B Lightning II platform.
Colonel Felter’s staff assignments include duty with Marine Aircraft Group 14 as Transition and Manpower Officer, where he developed the final sundown plan for the Marine Corps’ AV-8B program. He also served as Assistant Chief of Staff, G-7 at Marine Forces Command, managing aviation operations, service-retained force readiness, and training and exercise portfolios.
Colonel Felter is a distinguished graduate of Command and Staff College (non-resident seminar) and a graduate of the U.S. Army War College, earning a Master of Strategic Studies with distinction. He also holds a Master of Science in Aviation Leadership from Liberty University, graduating with high distinction.
In April 2025, Colonel Felter assumed command of Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.
