1st Lt. Jacob Ridings stands in front of a Denim Day display that was set up for a Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaign aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, May 1. Denim Day began nearly 20 years ago after a rapist’s conviction was overturned by the Italian Supreme Court because the justices felt that since the young woman was wearing tight jeans, she must have assisted the rapist in removing them. The next day, the women in Italian Parliament came to work wearing denim, and now annually one Wednesday in April is honored as Denim Day. This was one of several awareness displays set up around Marine Wing Support Detachment 273. Ridings is a SAPR advocate with MWSD-273. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Ashley Phillips)
