MCAS Beaufort runway reopens for air show
21 Mar 2017

Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort’s runway 14/32 (northwest to southeast) is scheduled to reopen this week primarily to support the 2017 MCAS Beaufort Air Show and is slated to close following the completion of the air show May 1.

Runway 05-23 (northeast to southwest) has been the primary runway and will remain open. Runway 14-32 is safe for operation although some maintenance remains to be performed prior to permanently reopening it this year.

The runway maintenance, which began in November 2016, was started to repair wear and tear on the landing surface caused by aircraft departures and arrivals; similar to the stress placed on roads from traffic over the years.

This maintenance increases the integrity of the runway surfaces and ensures our aircraft will operate on the most stable and structurally efficient runway as we continue our mission of maintaining a high state of readiness to support current and emerging threats.

MCAS Beaufort would like to thank the community for their patience during the runway maintenance period. The air station enjoys an enduring relationship with Beaufort and we thank everyone for their support and understanding during this process.
