Students attend an Earth Day assembly at Middleton S. Elliott Elementary School aboard Laurel Bay April 22. Teresa Karlyk, an art teacher, helped the students create designs that fit the Earth Day theme. The plaque was accepted on behalf of the Provost Marshal’s Office who received federal accreditation fromHeadquarters Marine Corps. The recognition came after seventeen months of observation from Headquarters Marine Corpsthrough a modified course of inspections and criteria used for high-tempo municipal police forces. Buck is the commandingofficer of MCAS Beaufort. Durham is a representative of the Deputy Commandant of Security Plans, Policies, and OperationsSecurity Division. - Col. Scott will be in the Tri-command area throughout the week where he plans to visit Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island as well as Naval Hospital Beaufort. The day was part of a familiarization for the students in careers that tie into the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics program. The course provides F/A- 18 Hornet aircrew and Marine air intercept controllers with groundside and airborne instruction in doctrine, tactics and weapons considerations for the successful use of Marine fighter attack aircraft in combat. Marine Fighter Training Squadron 401 brought eight F-5N Tiger II aircraft to support red air for the course.
